Former Black Stars defender Sam Johnson has backed current Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan to challenge for the golden boot award in this season’s Turkish league.
Gyan signed for Kayserispor earlier this transfer window from Chinese club Shanghai SIPG on a two year deal and he has impressed in pre-season, scoring three goals.
Johnson who himself is a former player of Kayserispor, spent a large part of his career in the Turkish league most notably in his spell with giants Fernabache.
The 44-year old has tipped Asamoah Gyan to score a minimum of 20 goals this season provided he gets the right service.
“If Asamoah has someone in the team who can give him adequate supply, I’m sure he will score not less than 20 goals,” he told Citi-Sports.
“It just depends on him getting the right service and staying injury free. If that happens I’m very certain he will score at least 20 goals.”
Gyan is expected to lead the Kayserispor forward line when they begin their league campaign against powerhouse Galatasaray in Istanbul on Monday.
