#Day two of Knust 7th summer school: University Administrators are advised to avoid conflict of interest

The administrators of the various colleges and department in the Kwame Nkrumah University of science and technology have been advised to eschew any form of conflict of interest in their line of duties.


This all important advised was made in a presentation by Dr. Stephen Kofi Sondem of the department of public law in knust to a group of senior staff members (non-academic) of the university during the second day of the 2017 knust summer school.


According to Dr. S.K Sondem, No individual administrator can actually manage conflict of interest without the involvement of cooperate measures of the university. There must be a mechanism on the part of the university and a personal effort from the administrator to have effective result in combating conflict of interest.

“Administrators must carry out their responsibilities to the university with loyalty and in the best interest of the university and conduct your personal and business matters so as to avoid actual, potential or apparent conflict between your self-interest and the university’s interest”.

Meanwhile, article 284 of the 1992 constitution of the republic of Ghana spells out mandatory provisions on conflict of interest by the public officers, which states that, “A public officer shall not put himself in a position where his personal interest conflicts or is likely to conflict with the performance of the functions of his office”.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Steephen Kofi Sondem emphasized that appearing better than others is always dangerous, but most dangerous of all is to appear to have fault or weakness. It is matter occasionally to display effect and admit to harmless vices in order to appear more human and approachable.
