Sports Director of KNUST Dr Anthony Adjei Tetteh-Oppai has spoken of how he intends of combining the supporting fronts of Unity Hall (Conti) and University Hall (Katanga).
The annual first year games organizeed by the Sports Directorate in KNUST came to a successful end on Tuesday. The games were surrounded with lots of enthusiasm and intriguing moments. Conti won gold in the men’s soccer division – coupled with other honours in the track and field event. Africa Hall on the other hand proved hot in the women’s division as well.
Republic Hall, “Beautiful people with beautiful colors”, made it all the way to the finals in the men’s football but were brushed aside by more hungrier Conti side. However, Independence Hall as usual settled for second and third places in most of the disciplines behind Conti or Katanga.
One irresistible moment was when Unity and University Hall came in their numbers at Paa Joe sports complex cheering their respective teams up which of course impressed many, notable among them was Dr Oppai, the Sports Director.
Speaking exclusively to Focus FM after the final game, he expressed his delight in what he saw and revealed he has plans of combining the vibrant supporters base of both Conti and Kat for upcoming GUSA games.
“Honestly, I have been impressed with every single thing that has gone on over here. You could see the quality the first year’s brought on-board, so I reckon the future of KNUST sports is bright,” he said.
“In spite of the little challenges we acknowledge, I was delighted with a lot of the moments here specifically how Conti and Katanga came in their numbers cheering their boys up.
“You know supporters have always served as the number twelve man in all sporting disciplines. I believe they will be very crucial for us in all competition.”
Asked if it’s possible to get these supporters joined together to represent KNUST massively in competition, Dr.Oppai stated that;
“Yes, it’s very much possible, you were at Cape-Vas (referring to Focus FM’s Steve Zando) and you saw the support base I amassed for the Legon team especially during the basketball games.”
“Plans regarding joining the support base of the two halls are in the pipeline already. I will be meeting the leadership front of both halls for brief discussion. So let’s hope for a successful meeting with them.”
The Fresher’s games, organized by the Sports Directorate serve as a source of recruitment for the main KNUST sports team, blend with the old guys and together they will compete for KNUST in GUSA game.
